Phuket 5-Day Itinerary for Indian Travellers: Beaches, Islands and Old Town
A realistic five-day Phuket plan with one island day trip, beach days, Old Town and a rest day, so you do not spend the whole trip in a van.
Quick answer: Five days is enough for Phuket if you keep it simple: one full island day trip, two beach days, one day for Old Town and food, and one slow day at the start or end. Base yourself in one area for the whole stay, so you are not moving hotels.
Where should you base yourself in Phuket?
Pick one beach area and stay there. Kata or Karon is a good default for families and first-timers. Patong has the most going on at night. Phuket Town is cheaper and more local but is not on the beach. Our guide to where to stay in Phuket covers the trade-offs.
Day 1: Arrive and settle in
Land at Phuket airport, transfer to your hotel and keep the first day light. Walk the beach, have dinner nearby and sleep. Arrange your airport transfer before you land, so you are not negotiating a fare at the taxi desk.
Day 2: Beach day
Spend the morning at your nearest beach and the afternoon at a viewpoint. Karon Viewpoint and the Promthep Cape sunset are the classic choices. Bring cash for small purchases, and read our Thailand baht guide before you exchange money.
Day 3: Phi Phi Islands day trip
This is the big day. Most tours leave early, cover Phi Phi Don and Maya Bay by speedboat, and include snorkelling and lunch. Choose a smaller-group speedboat over a large ferry if you can, since it gets you to the beaches before the crowds. Keep the day clear of other plans. See Phi Phi and James Bond Island tours for how to choose between them.
Day 4: Phuket Old Town and food
Spend the day on Phuket Town: the Sino-Portuguese shophouses on Thalang Road, local cafes, and the weekend night market if your dates match. It is a good rain-day plan too. Vegetarians should look for places that clearly mark vegetarian options, and ask for no fish sauce when ordering.
Day 5: Free morning, then fly out
Leave a buffer. Allow at least three hours before an international departure, and more if you are returning on a weekend. Pick up gifts and last-minute shopping in the morning.
Do you need a visa?
Indian passport holders enter Thailand visa-free for 30 days for arrivals from 15 September 2026. Check the latest rule in our Thailand visa update before you fly.
How much does a 5-day Phuket trip cost?
It depends mainly on flights and hotel class. Our Thailand trip cost from Bangalore breaks down a full budget, and you can check current fares on the Bangalore to Phuket flight finder or the Delhi to Phuket flight finder.
Is five days too short?
Not for Phuket alone. If you want Krabi as well, extend to seven nights and read Phuket vs Krabi to decide how to split the time.
