Beach Villa First, Overwater Last: The Split-Stay Honeymoon in the Maldives

Arrive in a beach villa and upgrade to an overwater villa for the last three nights. Guides say it works best at 7 nights or more. How to price it.

Quick answer: A common honeymoon tip in guides is to arrive into a beach villa and move to an overwater villa for the last three nights. One guide says splitting only pays off for seven nights or more. It gives you both views and lowers the total, since beach villas are about 20 to 30% cheaper per one source. Not every resort lets you change villa mid-stay, so ask first.

When does it make sense?

Length of staySplit worth it?
4 to 5 nightsUsually not; pick one
7 nights or moreYes, per guides

Our four-night budget tables assume a single villa type; see luxury Maldives budget.

Sample arithmetic

Using the lowest rate we hold for Sheraton Full Moon (₹54,000 a night, a base room): if a water villa costs 25% more per night than a beach room, three overwater nights add about ₹40,500 over three beach nights. The real gap depends on the resort and the date, so this is a planning example only, not a quote.

How to ask for it

  1. Ask for the nightly rate of both villa types for your dates.
  2. Ask whether you can change villa mid-stay and whether there is a fee.
  3. Ask when the move happens (morning checkout) and where your luggage goes.

Which resorts have both?

Sheraton Full Moon lists garden cottages, water bungalows and water villas, and Niva Kuramathi lists beach villas and water villas. See overwater vs beach.

Is a split stay the same as a two-resort stay?

No. A two-resort stay adds a second transfer. A split stay stays on one island.

Can Trripah arrange it?

Send your dates and resort on WhatsApp or the trip planner and we will ask the resort for both rates.
