Thailand vs Bali vs Vietnam: Which Should You Book for Summer 2026?

Three of India's favourite destinations, one summer window. Thailand is recovering strongly, Bali's peak season starts, Vietnam is at its best. Here's the honest comparison — weather, price, and crowd levels — so you can stop overthinking and book.

Every year Indian travellers face the same summer dilemma: Thailand, Bali, or Vietnam? All three are in the same rough price band, all three are beloved by Indian families and friend groups. The difference is in the details — and in 2026, those details matter more than usual.

The Quick Answer

For families: Thailand (Phuket or Chiang Mai) or Bali. For friends groups: Bali or Vietnam. For couples and first-timers: Vietnam (most underrated value). For budget-first: Vietnam, then Thailand. For beach + luxury mix: Bali.

Now the longer answer.

Thailand in Summer 2026

Thailand's peak season is November–February. Summer (May–October) is technically the wet season — but 'wet season' is frequently misunderstood.

On the Andaman Sea side (Phuket, Krabi, Koh Lanta), June onwards brings the strongest monsoon — some beach islands close down. This is genuinely not a good time for Phuket beach holidays.

On the Gulf of Thailand side (Koh Samui, Koh Tao, Hua Hin), the pattern is reversed — June–August is relatively dry, while October–November gets the rain. Koh Samui and Koh Tao are genuinely good in June–August.

Bangkok and Chiang Mai work year-round. Bangkok's heat peaks in April, but May–August is manageable with rain providing natural cooling. Chiang Mai's June–August is lush green, waterfalls are full, and the city is less crowded than November–February high season.

For Indian families, a Bangkok–Chiang Mai–Pai itinerary in June avoids the beach weather issue entirely and delivers a rich cultural experience. See our Thailand travel guide for season-by-season breakdown.

Flight prices from India to Bangkok in June 2026: ₹14,000–22,000 return. Non-stop flights available from most major Indian cities.

Bali in Summer 2026

Bali's best months are April–October — the dry season. June–August is technically Bali's peak season, which means:

✅ Best weather — sunny, 28–32°C, low humidity ✅ All attractions fully operational ❌ Highest prices of the year ❌ Most crowded, especially Seminyak and Ubud

For Indian families, June–August Bali makes logistical sense because it aligns with school holidays. But book hotels 2–3 months in advance — good properties in Canggu, Ubud, and Seminyak sell out.

Friend groups should look at villa stays — a 4-bedroom private villa with a pool in Canggu or Seminyak currently runs ₹18,000–30,000 per night total (split 8 ways = ₹2,200–3,700 per person per night). Better than hotel rooms and far more fun for groups.

Flight prices from India to Bali (Ngurah Rai airport) in June 2026: ₹22,000–35,000 return. Typically connects via Singapore, KL, or Bangkok.

Vietnam in Summer 2026

Vietnam is often overlooked because it's less Instagram-famous than Bali — which is exactly why it's the smartest booking in summer 2026.

Vietnam has a split weather system. The north (Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Sapa) gets wetter in June–August. The centre and south (Da Nang, Hoi An, Ho Chi Minh City) are excellent in June–August — dry, sunny, warm.

For Indian travellers, the Da Nang–Hoi An–Ho Chi Minh City route in June is one of the best-value international trips available from India right now. The food is extraordinary, the landscapes are dramatic, and prices are notably lower than Thailand or Bali.

Flight prices from India to Ho Chi Minh City or Da Nang in June: ₹18,000–28,000 return from most Indian cities.

A 10-day Vietnam trip (Ho Chi Minh–Hoi An–Da Nang) for two including flights, 3-star hotels, and food costs ₹1,30,000–1,70,000 total — approximately 25–30% less than a comparable Bali trip. See our Vietnam travel guide for itinerary ideas.

The Summary

| | June–August Weather | Typical Cost (7 nights, 2 pax) | Best For | |---|---|---|---| | Thailand (Bangkok/CM) | ✅ Good | ₹90k–1.2L | Families, culture | | Bali | ✅ Best | ₹1.1L–1.5L | Beach, friends, luxury | | Vietnam (South/Centre) | ✅ Excellent | ₹80k–1.1L | Value, couples, food |
