Maldives Visa for Indians 2026: Free 30-Day Visa on Arrival, Documents and Arrival Form
Indian passport holders get a free 30-day visa on arrival in the Maldives. Here are the documents to carry, the arrival form and what immigration may ask for.
Quick answer: The Maldives does not need a visa before you travel. Official Maldivian mission pages say a free visa of up to 30 days is issued on arrival to all nationalities, which includes Indians. You need a passport with at least one month of validity, a complete itinerary (confirmed return ticket and a prepaid booking at a registered facility) and enough funds, and you must file the online Traveller Declaration (IMUGA). Entry is always decided by the immigration officer at the airport.
Do Indians need a visa for the Maldives?
You do not apply in advance. The visa is issued at the port of entry, for free, for up to 30 days, according to the official mission pages we found.
What are the entry requirements for the Maldives?
The official pages list:
- A passport or travel document with a machine-readable zone and at least 1 month of validity from arrival. A third-party guide says 6 months; the official pages say one month, so follow the official rule and carry a passport with comfortable validity anyway.
- A complete travel itinerary: confirmed return tickets, and a prepaid booking at a registered facility, or a pre-approved sponsorship.
- Sufficient funds for the stay. The benchmark given is US$100 plus US$50 per day, or a confirmed reservation at a tourist resort or hotel. Lonely Planet notes that proof of funds is rarely asked for from travellers with a resort booking.
The official pages are clear that a complete itinerary does not guarantee entry. Entry is granted after the immigration officer decides you are admissible.
What is the IMUGA Traveller Declaration?
All foreign visitors must fill in the Traveller Declaration on the official IMUGA portal, which can be completed up to 96 hours (4 days) before arrival. The Maldives immigration website links to it under "Traveller Declaration", with options to create, edit and verify a declaration. One travel guide says a second declaration is needed before departure, while the official pages we found mention arrival only, so check the portal close to your date.
Can you stay longer than 30 days?
Extensions are possible. One official guide says an extension can be granted for up to 60 days, making a total stay of 90 days, and the US Commercial Guide says the immigration office routinely approves extensions up to 90 days for travellers who show sufficient funds and a place to stay. Ask the immigration office before you plan on it.
What are the other rules to know?
- Tourists may not work. Visitors found working or overstaying can be fined or deported.
- A yellow fever certificate applies only if you are arriving from an affected country.
- Visits to local islands need a registered guesthouse stay, according to one guide.
A quick checklist for Indian travellers
- Passport with comfortable validity.
- Return ticket and a prepaid resort or hotel booking.
- A bank statement or card, in case you are asked for funds.
- IMUGA declaration, filed within 96 hours before arrival, with the QR code saved.
- Printed and digital copies of everything.
What does a Maldives trip cost?
The visa is free, but resort transfers, taxes and meal plans drive the price. See Maldives trip cost from India and visa on arrival countries for Indians.
