How to Read a Flight Fare Board: A Practical Guide for Indian Travellers
What a fare board shows, how to read a fare card, the traps to avoid and a simple routine for finding a cheap flight.
A fare board and a search engine do different jobs. Here is how to read a fare board, what the numbers mean and the traps to avoid.
What a fare board shows
A board lists the cheapest round-trip fare found for each destination from your city, usually with the month and airline. It answers *where can I go and when is it cheap*. A search engine answers *what does this exact trip cost on this exact day*.
How to read a fare card
- Price: the round-trip fare for one adult on the dates shown.
- Dates: the departure and return the price applies to. Move either date and the fare can change.
- Stops and duration: a cheaper fare can mean a long layover. Check the flight time.
- Airline: baggage and meals differ between carriers.
Traps to avoid
- Only looking at the headline price. It is the cheapest date pair, which may not be your dates.
- Ignoring baggage. A low-cost carrier fare may exclude checked bags.
- Forgetting the rest of the trip. Stay costs vary by month too, so compare the whole trip.
- Treating the fare as fixed. Airlines change prices through the day.
A simple routine
- Open the Trripah Flight Finder, choose your city and look at the month strip.
- Pick two or three destinations and open their route pages to see the dates.
- Check the same dates on the airline or your usual site before paying.
- If you want flights, stays and transfers planned together, ask Trripah.
Common questions
Why is the price at checkout different? Airlines change prices during the day and by booking channel; a board shows what was found on its nightly check.
Is the Flight Finder free? Yes, with no login. See how it works.
