Greece Honeymoon 2026: The Honest Guide for Indian Couples (Costs, Islands, Visas, Best Time)
Greece has overtaken Bali and Maldives as the most-searched honeymoon destination among urban Indian couples in 2026. Here's what it actually costs, which islands to choose, how the Schengen visa works, and why May–June is the ideal window.
Greece has had a quiet revolution in Indian travel demand. In 2024, it barely registered as a honeymoon option for most Indian couples. By early 2026, it's the most-enquired European honeymoon destination among urban Indians aged 25–35.
The reasons are partly aspirational (the Santorini cliff-house aesthetic is now inescapable on Indian social media) and partly practical (improved flight connectivity, relaxed Schengen visa processing, and the discovery that Greece is significantly more pocket-friendly than its Instagram presence suggests).
Here's the honest guide.
What Does a Greece Honeymoon Cost for Indian Couples?
The honest answer: less than you probably think, but more than Bali or Thailand.
For a 10-night Greece honeymoon for two — Santorini (4 nights) + Mykonos (3 nights) + Athens (3 nights) — the all-in cost from a major Indian city runs approximately:
Return flights (from Bangalore/Mumbai/Delhi): ₹55,000–80,000 per person, typically routing via Dubai, Istanbul, or Frankfurt. Flight time: 9–12 hours total with one stop.
Accommodation in Santorini: Cliff-facing rooms with caldera views start at €120–180 per night (budget-to-mid), rising to €350–600+ for the Insta-famous infinity pool suites. The ₹200-per-night suites you see on Instagram exist — but they're at the top end. Budget for €150–200 per night for a genuinely nice room with a view.
Mykonos: Similar to Santorini. Stays from €100 per night for well-reviewed boutique properties.
Athens: Much more pocket-friendly. €60–90 per night for good 3-4 star accommodation near the Acropolis.
All-in, a 10-night Greece honeymoon for two — including flights from India, accommodation, internal island ferries, meals, and day activities — typically runs ₹3,50,000–4,80,000 for a mid-range experience. A budget version (3-star throughout, fewer dinners out) can be done for ₹2,80,000–3,20,000.

Which Islands for Indian Couples?
Santorini is the iconic choice — caldera views, cave houses cut into volcanic cliffs, spectacular sunsets at Oia. It's as beautiful as the photographs. The island is small (a circuit of the caldera rim by quad bike takes 90 minutes), so 3–4 nights is the right length. Avoid July–August if possible — the island is overwhelmed and temperatures push 38°C.
Mykonos is more cosmopolitan — beaches, nightlife, luxury shopping, world-class restaurants. For Indian honeymoon couples who want beaches over cliffs, Mykonos delivers. It's also more family/friends-appropriate than Santorini if you're travelling in a group.
Crete is the underrated choice — Greece's largest island, with extraordinary beaches (Elafonissi's pink sand, Balos Lagoon), ancient Minoan ruins, and food that locals genuinely consider better than anywhere else in Greece. Costs are 20–30% lower than Santorini. Best for couples who want beauty without the crowds.
Rhodes is for couples who want medieval history + beaches. The old walled city of Rhodes is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Beautiful beaches on the coast. Less visited by Indian travellers, which means a more authentic experience.
Best Time for a Greece Honeymoon from India
May and early June: Ideal. Warm (24–28°C), sunny, crowds not yet at peak, hotels not fully booked. Ferry services running fully. Prices 10–15% below July–August peak.
September–October: The other prime window. Summer heat has broken, summer crowds have thinned, prices drop, and the light is extraordinary for photography.
July–August: Hot (35–40°C in Santorini), expensive, and crowded. Only recommend if these are the only months available.
The Schengen Visa for Indian Travellers in 2026
Greece falls under the Schengen zone. The Greece consulate (VFS Global handles applications in India) has been processing Schengen tourist visas more efficiently in 2026 — current processing times average 10–15 working days.
Key requirements: - Valid passport (6 months beyond travel date) - Bank statements showing sufficient funds (€100/day as a baseline) - Hotel and flight bookings - Travel insurance covering the Schengen zone - Proof of employment or business
