Dubai Booking During Gulf Disruption: Refunds, Rebooking and Insurance Checklist
A practical checklist for Indian travellers with a Dubai or Gulf booking: what to ask the airline and hotel, how to read refund rules, and what travel insurance usually covers.

When flights in the Gulf are disrupted, the people who cope best have checked three things in advance: the airline's rules, the hotel's rules and their insurance. Use this checklist.
1. The airline
- Open your booking and note the fare type. Refund and change rules depend on it.
- Ask: if my flight is cancelled by the airline, do I get a refund or a free rebooking?
- Ask: if I choose to cancel myself, what is the fee?
- Download the airline app and turn on notifications for your flights.
- Check every sector, including any connection to or from the UAE.
2. The hotel and tours
- Read the cancellation deadline and whether the booking is refundable or credit-only.
- Ask whether dates can be moved without a fee.
- Ask tour and activity providers about their rebooking terms.
3. Travel insurance
- Read the exclusions. Many policies exclude cancellations for events that were already in the news when you bought the policy.
- Check cover for flight cancellation, delay and trip interruption.
- Keep the insurer's emergency number saved offline.
4. Your documents and contacts
- Keep digital and printed copies of your passport, visa, tickets and hotel bookings.
- Save the number of the Indian mission. The Consulate General of India in Dubai runs a 24-hour help line for Indian nationals.
- Share your itinerary with a family member.
5. If your flight is cancelled
- Do not go to the airport until the airline confirms the new plan.
- Take screenshots of the cancellation message.
- Ask for a refund or a rebooking in writing.
- Keep receipts for extra costs and ask your insurer what is claimable.
6. If you book now
- Pick the most flexible fare you can afford.
- Avoid very tight connections.
- Choose hotels with free cancellation.
