Best Time to Visit Hanoi From India: Autumn, Spring and the Grey Winter

Hanoi has four seasons. October to November and March to April are the pleasant windows; winter is cold and grey, and summer is hot with storms.

Quick answer: The best time to visit Hanoi is October to November (mild, drier, golden light) and March to April (warm, often misty). December to February is cool and grey, sometimes cold and drizzly. May to September is hot, humid and stormy, with typhoon risk from July to October. Plan Ha Long Bay for October to December or spring for clearer views.

Add-ons by month

Ha Long Bay is clearest in the cooler dry months, while summer storms can cancel cruises. Sapa's terraces are golden in September and October and green in May and June; winter is foggy and cold. Ninh Binh is lovely in spring when the fields are green.

Is Hanoi good in November?

Yes, it is one of the best months. Days are mild and rainfall is low.

Do Indians need a visa for Vietnam?

Yes. The usual route is an online e-visa, listed at US$25 for a single entry and valid up to 90 days. Confirm the current fee on the official portal, evisa.gov.vn.

How many days do I need in Hanoi?

Two nights for the city, plus two for Ha Long Bay and two for Ninh Binh or Sapa. See Vietnam month by month for the whole country.
